Workshop "Media Literacy 4 Children" - Developing Media Resilience
June 11, 2024, in Sloviansk, Donetsk region, the project team held a workshop "Media Literacy 4 Children" within the implementation of the Jean Monnet Module of the Erasmus+ program "European Practices in Media Education".
This interactive 4-hour event was designed specifically for children aged 8-10 and aimed to develop their critical thinking skills, broaden their experience of working with different types of media, and strengthen their understanding of the importance of safe use of social networks.
The following activities were held for 30 workshop participants:
- Interactive introduction to various types of media
- Practical exercises for the development of critical thinking
- Creating a "safe profile" in social networks
- Role-playing games to combat cyberbullying
- Creative workshop on creating your media content
After the event, the children filled out the questionnaires of the participants and shared their impressions:
"I really enjoyed creating my blog! Now I know how to do it safely" (Mariia, 9 years old)
"The workshop was great fun! I especially enjoyed the Media Bingo game. I didn't even know there were so many different types of media." (Denys, 8 years old)
"I enjoyed working as a team when we created rules for the safe use of social networks. Now I will share these rules with my friends." (Kateryna, 10 years old)
"I learned to distinguish advertising from ordinary posts. It was unexpectedly interesting!" (Artem, 9 years old)
Thanks to the active participation of children and the use of interactive learning methods, among other results of the workshop, we note: increasing children's awareness of various types of media and their influence, developing skills in critical analysis of information, improving understanding of the rules of safe use of social networks, forming strategies to combat cyberbullying, encouraging creative and responsible creation of media content.
Taking into account the positive feedback and the high interest of the participants, we plan to hold similar workshops regularly. Stay tuned for updates on upcoming events and opportunities to get involved.
