Project Summary:
The main goal of Jean Monnet Module “European Practices in Media Education” is aimed at strengthening citizens’ media literacy in the European Union context through implementing the academic course “European Media Education Studies” into primary school teachers’ training and holding a wide range of non-formal learning activities for different categories of the citizens (from primary school children to older people), designed to increase the citizens’ media literacy, obtain innovative EU media education practices, and get deeper understanding of EU experience and standards in media education.
The mission is considering EU experience to extend knowledge about EU values and ethics for enhancing people’s critical thinking and media literacy through the implementation of media education studies.
The main target group is youth (master students of the specialty 013 Primary Education) of the East of Ukraine, as well as university and primary school teachers, primary school children, and people in the third age of life.
The Module activities will involve all the target groups:
- implementing the course “European Media Education Studies” into the training of the master students of the specialty 013 Primary Education;
- conducting the summer school “Media Education Integration into Art Lessons” for in-service teachers;
- organising the intensive course “Media Education in Teacher Training” for university lecturers;
- holding the training course “Media Literacy 4 the Elderly” for the members of the U3A;
- preparing the toolkit “Implementation of EU Media Educational Practices into the Teacher Training”;
- designing of the EUPinMEd project website to inform interested parties about the project implementation and relevant issues of European media education studies;
- conducting of the communication events: the round table “European Practices in Media Education for Democracy”; the workshop “Media Literacy 4 Children” for primary school students.
Project objective and specific tasks:
- The university students will obtain advanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills in media education activities in accordance with recommendations and European experience. The teacher staff who will implement the project will improve the methods and technologies of pedagogical activity in the field of media education based on European practices.
- The curriculum of training of the master students of the specialty 013 Primary Education will be enriched with theoretical and practical material on the implementation of EU experience in the field of media education.
- The academic aspect of implementing the course of European media education studies will be supplemented by the involvement of the civil sector through carrying out the educational activities together with the university of the third age.
