The nationwide MediaEU Challenge essay competition has concluded, conducted within the framework of the "European Media Education Practices" project (101085162 - EUPinMEd ERASMUS-JMO-2022-MODULE). An expert jury has selected five winners across different categories, who demonstrated deep understanding of current challenges in European media education:
"Best Analysis of National Media Education Strategies" – Sofiia Solodukhova (Donbas State Pedagogical University)
"Innovative Approaches to Combating Disinformation" – Karyna Nikolaiuk (Donbas State Pedagogical University)
"Ethical Challenges of Digital Society" – Olena Boichuk (Lviv Polytechnic National University)
"Media Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence" – Olha Voitanik (Donbas State Pedagogical University)
"European Media Literacy Practices" – Anastasia Rutkovska (Donbas State Pedagogical University)
The winners' works stood out not only for their depth of research but also for the practical orientation of their proposals. As Karyna Nikolaiuk noted in her essay: "Media education today is not just the ability to read and write in the digital age, but the capacity to think critically amid informational chaos and form one's own position based on verified facts."
Olha Voitanik emphasized in her work: "The integration of artificial intelligence into the media space requires us to rethink traditional approaches to media education. We must teach future generations not to fear technology, but to use it as a tool for creating quality content."
The jury paid particular attention to Olena Boichuk's insight: "Ethical responsibility in digital space begins with media education. Every user should be aware of their role in shaping a healthy information environment."
All winners have already received their awards – electronic certificates, as well as commemorative gifts from the organizers: stylish tote bags and mugs featuring the MediaEU Challenge logo and the "European Media Education Practices" project branding.
The MediaEU Challenge competition confirmed the high level of interest among Ukrainian students in media education issues and their readiness to contribute to shaping the future of European media literacy. The organizers express gratitude to all higher education students for their active participation and quality research, which will become an important contribution to the development of media education in Ukraine.
