Conducting a media literacy training course for members of the University of the Third Age

The event became part of the implementation of the Jean Monnet Module "European Practices in Media Education" (101085162 — EUPinMEd ERASMUS-JMO-2022-MODULE) under the Erasmus+ program of the European Union and was aimed at increasing the level of media literacy of older people. Over four days, course participants had the opportunity to learn the skills of critical analysis of media content, detection of manipulation and disinformation in the media, and safe work with digital technologies and social networks. Particular attention was paid to information hygiene and cyber security, risks and threats on the Internet (phishing, fraud, cybercrime), and practical recommendations were offered to secure the personal data and devices of the training participants.

The event was conducted by members of the project team Olena Beskorsa and Olena Ishutina. The interactive format of the training ensured the active involvement of listeners thanks to mini-lectures, discussions, practical tasks, multimedia presentations, and case analysis and provided the possibility of practical application of the acquired knowledge.

The event was highly appreciated by the participants, who expressed their gratitude to the organizers and teachers for relevant and useful knowledge on media literacy. The team of the project "European Practices in Media Education" (101085162 - EUPinMEd ERASMUS-JMO-2022-MODULE) emphasized the importance of such initiatives for the continuous education of senior citizens.
